Hags in the Nether!

Here's a quick little update for you. I thought I'd share this incredibly cool new painting by world-renowned fantasy artist Stephen Hickman (in fact, he's going to be the artist guest of honor at this summer's Conestoga fantasy convention, which I'll be attending).

It's based on a scene in NIGHTMARE ACADEMY Book 1 where a flock of Hags snatch up our heroes and fly them off to their crumbling mansion in the Nether.

You can click on the pic a couple times to get a much bigger look:

In other news, CITV website in the UK just posted a really fun interview I did with them. It's a great site and I had a blast doing it. If you're interested, you can check it out HERE.

And that's all for now!

Take care...

Thanks, I really love it!

It's also kind of cool to compare it to J.P. Targete's portrait of the Hag on the MONSTERS page of my website. They're both illustrations of the same creature, both extremely cool, and both completely different from one another. I love to see how great artists interpret things in their own, unique way.

What an awesome picture! The hags are great. SO much cool art has come as a result of your book. It's got to be absolutely amazing. Well, I take that back- it IS absolutely amazing!

I can't begin to tell you how much fun it is to see great artists like Steve take a whack at stuff from the book. They tell me they're inspired by the story but, the truth is, I'm really inspired by their art. :)

Well... It's like the cycle of art, isn't it? Everybody feeding off e/o, supporting e/o... it's what makes the artistic community so great.

That is amazing!! The details are incredible. So what is going to happen with this art? Is it hanging on your wall? ;)

Well, it's not hanging on my wall yet but it will be as soon as I get it framed! It's really big -- something like 3' x 4'.

I'm a fantasy art junkie and I have tons of original art hanging in the house. A long time ago (on a long dead blog...) I wrote a piece about collecting fantasy art. Maybe I'll dig it up and repost it here some time soon. :)

Good stuff
Congrats on the painting - fantastic!

I must admit, I'm partial to the Targete vision of the Hags, but to each artist his own hag, right?

Fun CITV interview. Gee, those Brits sure do spell, "pyjamas" strangely.

We'll look for you at the Festival of Books - My Christmas-Halloween-Valentine-Birthday-All-Rolled-Into-One- favorite event of the year!

Cheers! - R

Re: Good stuff
The Targete Hag is so different from Hickman's Hag, but I really love them both. J.P.'s is probably closer to what I had in mind when I was writing, but I really enjoy being surprised by wild interpretations.

And it would be great to see you at the Festival of Books! I'll be there will Elizabeth and the kids.

Take care...
